- WMS: focused on operations — locations, lots, wave picking and RF terminal processes.
- Integration: WMS movements are posted to the ERP as stock movements; gaps cause stock discrepancies.
Who needs warehouse management software?
In small single-site warehouses a spreadsheet or simple inventory tracking may be enough. These signals strengthen the case for a WMS:
- Daily order volume and SKU variety have grown, and so has the error rate.
- You run several warehouses or many locations (rack addresses).
- FIFO/FEFO, lot or serial tracking is mandatory (pharma, food, automotive and so on).
- 3PL or e-commerce fulfilment puts pressure on speed and accuracy.
- Headcount has grown and you need to trace who did what.

- Operation type: production warehouse, distribution, e-commerce, cold chain, 3PL.
- ERP integration: is there a proven integration with your current ERP?

- Scalability: growth in users, locations and order volume.

- Change management: training, process ownership, go-live plan.
