WMS for pharmaceutical and medical-device warehouses: İTS, ÜTS and traceability

In a pharmaceutical warehouse the WMS is not only a productivity tool but a link in the regulatory reporting chain. Every box movement is recorded by its data-matrix code, and the WMS must build those scans into warehouse tasks.

Capabilities to look for in a WMS

CapabilityWhy it mattersHow to test it in a demo
Data-matrix scanning and İTS notificationsReceipt, sale and return notifications are generated as part of the warehouse task.Show how the notification is created for a receipt and a shipment, and what happens on error.
Case / pallet – box relationship (aggregation)Scanning the transport unit processes the boxes inside without opening it.Break a mixed case and repack it.
Lot, expiry and FEFOItems closest to expiry ship first; lot-level recalls are possible.Pick an order for an item stocked in two lots.
Quarantine and quality statusesUnreleased stock cannot be shipped.Try to allocate quarantined stock to an order.
Temperature zonesCold-chain products are put away only in suitable locations.Try to put a cold-chain item into an ambient location.

We cover the warehouse-process side in detail in our ITS/PTS warehouse operations guide.

Ask the vendor

  1. Is İTS integration a standard part of the product? At how many pharmaceutical warehouses or manufacturers is it live?
  2. When regulations change, who updates the system, how fast and at what cost?
  3. How are notification errors monitored and resent?
  4. Is individual tracking supported for products under ÜTS?
