Regulation and traceability
- The Ministry of Health introduced the Pharmaceutical Track and Trace System (İTS) at the beginning of 2010. İTS records medicines on the market at box level by data-matrix code and tracks movements such as production, sale, dispensing and return [1].
- Notifications are made via web services from every location the medicine passes through [1]; the notifying stakeholders include pharmaceutical warehouses [2].
- For medical devices and cosmetics, registration and tracking run through TİTCK's Product Tracking System (ÜTS); medical devices are tracked individually from manufacture/import to the point of use [3].
Reporting obligations vary by product and stakeholder type; confirm current rules with TİTCK announcements and your advisers.
Capabilities to look for in a WMS
| Capability | Why it matters | How to test it in a demo |
|---|---|---|
| Data-matrix scanning and İTS notifications | Receipt, sale and return notifications are generated as part of the warehouse task. | Show how the notification is created for a receipt and a shipment, and what happens on error. |
| Case / pallet – box relationship (aggregation) | Scanning the transport unit processes the boxes inside without opening it. | Break a mixed case and repack it. |
| Lot, expiry and FEFO | Items closest to expiry ship first; lot-level recalls are possible. | Pick an order for an item stocked in two lots. |
| Quarantine and quality statuses | Unreleased stock cannot be shipped. | Try to allocate quarantined stock to an order. |
| Temperature zones | Cold-chain products are put away only in suitable locations. | Try to put a cold-chain item into an ambient location. |
We cover the warehouse-process side in detail in our ITS/PTS warehouse operations guide.
Ask the vendor
- Is İTS integration a standard part of the product? At how many pharmaceutical warehouses or manufacturers is it live?
- When regulations change, who updates the system, how fast and at what cost?
- How are notification errors monitored and resent?
- Is individual tracking supported for products under ÜTS?
Directory solutions whose sources mention this sector
The list is alphabetical and based on whether each solution's own sources mention this sector; it is not a ranking or recommendation. Checked: 2026-09-18.
To put these requirements to vendors in the same format use the RFP template; to test them in demos use the scripted demo guide.
